Dots on Dots

It's my day to share on the Dots on Dots blog hop.  Its been so fun to see what everyone has created with this theme.  I made two blocks. One that stayed within the size guidelines and one that didn't!  :)

The one that didn't is called "Roly Poly Owl" that I found on the blog "The Tulip Patch".

Mary made hers with a GO!Baby cutter which I don't have.  Instead of making paper templates for the drunkards path I chose to use an acrylic set I already owned that finished at 4 inches...which is why mine is larger....it's 16 inches of cuteness!

The owls sew up fast and are easy peasy.   I'm going to piece this block into the back of my grand daughters "I Spy" quilt that needs to made and finished in time for her second birthday.....in about 3 weeks!  Yikes....yes, I've procrastinated on it!

The other block I made - which *is* 12 inches - is called "Blue Specs" from the Modern Blocks book...but I call it "I See Dots"....hee, hee.

I co-teach a block of the month class at my local quilt store using the Modern Blocks book.  This is one of the blocks for Octobers class.  By using the dotted fabrics from the lines I'm using it works for the hop and my class!

Here are the other blogs on the hop today.  Be sure to go see what they made.
September 18th

And thanks to Madame Samm & Corrie for all the fun they bring!

Love your Roly Poly Owls. I didn't realize that they were a variation of Drunkard's Patch until I clicked on your link. Ya learn something new everyday - LOL! I just finished my September Craftsy BOM which were Cleopatra's Puzzle and Chain block which are also variations of Drunkard's Path. Very clever. Thanks for sharing, from California.

Fabulous blocks! Clever idea to make owls from the Drunkards Path block... I love these roly-poly cuties. The seeing spots block has me grinning, too. Somehow, the glasses have me thinking of the "Where's Waldo?" character... they could be his specs, I think. ;o)

Love the blocks, especially the glasses. I saw this in Modern Blocks and knew I would just have to make it along with a shoe block, a hat block and a purse block. I'm still deciding on fabric, but I'm oh so close. :-)

I am sloooooooow! I had looked at the owls and thought they were appliqued and cut in one piece. Then I looked again, and SAW a seam! Then the light bulb came on about the drunkard's path. Then I read more closely about where to find the pattern. I know it's 4AM, but I should not have been that slow! What a cute, cute, cute idea. I have baby quilts for twins that I thought were going to arrive yesterday (I just haven't heard). My brother is to be the grandpa. I've already started cutting out the fabric or I would have changed by mind and made owls - these are adorable. Just two cute.

And the glasses are fun, fun, fun. Those may have to go on the back on a quilt some day - it'll have to be the right quilt, but never know.

Thanks for participating and sharing with fellow quilters. What fun and inspiration.

The glasses are way cool. No other way to discribe them. Love the owls. I'm thinking they won't actually make a backing for a quilt but will make a reversible quilt.
