Happy Birthday, Bonnie!

The ole' gal is 12 today! Bonnie was our 6th try at having a dog. First there was Sonya...and adult dog we got for free...only to find out why....she dug incessantly. With two small kids, I just couldn't handle it! Then there was the replacement puppy, Frank...dumb move....kids are still young and I'm too lazy. Then came Roger. He was a sweety. But in his third year, he was hit by a car and had to be put down. Then came Cassie. A wonderful lab mix from the Humane Shelter. She was *my* dog. But alas, in her third year, she got sick and had to be put down. Next came a replacement puppy, Norman....who came with parvo and didn't make it. Sigh. Then came 6 months of quarantine until we could try again. Bonnie was an "Albertsons" dog...you know...the can't resist puppies in boxes that folks have right by the dang door! I grabbed the only female in the box and hurried home. We worried about whether she would ever make it past her third birthday......we really hadn't had much luck with dogs. She has beaten the odds. Thank goodness.

Here's Miss Bonnie as a puppy. Fat belly girl and forever playful friend:

And here she is now. She loves the outdoors no matter what the weather. If we are out, she is out.

And ever so patient with weird human behavior!
We love you, Miss Bonnie.

I Never Knew

I never knew that apparently I am in need of much help in my daily activities. Thankfully, Mr. Finn is ever ready and present to give me all the "help" I need! :)

Here's my boy helping with the laundry:

Apparently I hadn't pin basted this quilt properly and some of the pins needed to come out:

Here he is acting as my stylist as I was getting ready for a party:

Not sure why he thinks I need help reading? Maybe by staying put he thinks he will keep me on task:

Of course, even a super fantastic helper needs to take some time for himself! A good nap is in order.

Thanks, Finn. You make my days much more fun!

Seeing Red

My cat Finnian has a thing for red stuff. With many beanie babies around the house he only attacks one…a red dog. And now with the Christmas tree up he only has eyes for the red bows.

This is his second Christmas with us and he did the exact same thing last year as a kitten. There are plenty of ornaments down low that he could take off….but noooooo….its just the red bows.

Just try to get it away from him! I dare you!
He even diligently brought a “kill” to me in bed the other morning. Silly boy. Makes me wonder if Finn would attack the bows if they were a different color? Maybe next year we’ll experiment and see.

Merry Christmas, Finnian!

Daily Demise of Red Dog

I got a new kitty last year and he is quite the character. Finnian is the first cat I’ve ever had who plays catch. He likes to bat at rolled up paper thrown to him as if he were playing baseball. I play hide-n-seek with him…really!
One day I was sitting in my red chair reading when he comes running by with this red thing in his mouth. Hum…what was that? I go check and find that he has nabbed the Beanie Baby red dog that was in our grandsons crib. I take it away from him, tell him naughty kitty and then put it back. 5 minutes later…..flash of red comes running by….I put it back….5 minutes later….well, you get the picture.
Hunting Red Dog has now become a regular activity for Finnian. And we have turned this hunting into a game. We hide Red Dog all over the house.

When Finn walks by and sees Red Dog he immediately stops what he’s doing to attack.

Some times its just to throw the dog to the floor and then he saunters off with his tail held high in victory…other times he plays with it just as if it were a mouse. And when we leave Finnian alone for too long I find other Beanie Baby “kills” all over the place! But Red Dog is the only one he hunts on a daily basis. Silly cat.
