It's my day on the Bowls with Borders blog hop....my first hop and I'm so excited to share.
I knew from the very start that I wanted to make snack mats for my grand kids. Something small and fast so I'd finish! LOL. These little guys are 9x11 inches. This is a paper piecing pattern from Regina and was lots of fun to make.
Front of snack mats:
I made them with black backgrounds because....well...because they are kids! :) I added some patchwork to the sides and embroidered their names with Perle cotton.
The back side:
I found a product at Joann's called "Therm O Web, Iron on Vinyl" and made the backs wipe-able. It worked really well. It doesn't turn out as soft as professional laminated cotton but this lets you coat any fabric you have in your stash.
Strawberries, anyone?
Thanks to Regina for the pattern. I had a ball using it.
Thanks to Madame Sam of Sew We Quilt and Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for being our organizer/cheerleaders extraordinaire.
Now go check out today's other hoppers and their bowl creations:

Love the striped table, the patched & stitched names and the bowls especially when the bottom one has either been fussy cut or appliqued (couldn't tell). Thanks Cindy, I have joined as a follower.

Your snack mats are too cute! What a super idea and all kids love having their names on things. I think the black background works great. I have a little grandson of my own and this would be great for him. Congrats on your first blog hop! You did great! Thanks for sharing with us.
Very cute! I love them. :-)
Cindi-Your snack mats are cute. I have some of that laminating stuff but haven't tried it. I do have a commercially made table cloth that I love and has a laminated surface. It doesn't retain spills and it washes and dries beautifully-no treating necessary. I'm wondering why you treated the back and not both sides? I my house the top would be just as important as the back. Thanks for sharing-from No-CA
Very cute bowls! Such a nice idea to personalize them and thereby reducing any conflict over who gets which one!
